Emery Praises Ozil’s Performance as Arsenal Goes 3rd in Premier League

As the fight for top 4 in Premier League intensifies, the goosebumps are almost guaranteed. With Arsenal going 3rd after defeating Newcastle by 2-0, Unai Emery, Manager of Arsenal, said midfielder Mesut Ozil is “playing like we want”. The statement came after the German was pronounced as the man-of-the-match, ahead of Aaron Ramsey.

Ozil, who was not named in some big matches of the season by Emery, helped the Gunners secure victory against Newcastle on Monday. The victory implied that it was the 10th consecutive home win for Arsenal.

“I like how every player is playing and Mesut with his quality is helping us and giving us his work,” he said. “Also individual moments and skills, he has the capacity to help us,” he added.

Prior to Monday’s win, the German had only started in three league games since Boxing Day. According to Emery, the reason for which is that Ozil needs to be “consistent in training and in matches, without being injured or sick”. He also added that the midfielder would continue to be rotated.

“Mesut is playing like we want, with the system and tactically. He is working a lot and after that work he is also giving us his quality,” Emery said after the match.

Further commenting on maintaining the position he said: “Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United will win a lot of matches. It’s going to be difficult and the next game at Everton is very difficult. “We need to continue being consistent, continue creating a big mentality, learning when we need to struggle and when we need to push together,” he added.

Asked if Juventus-bound Ramsey’s performance proved that he what could have achieved if he stayed at the club, to which Emery said: “Aaron is happy, he’s helping us. He’s playing with big performances. We need to create a big atmosphere. He knows we are in the most important moment in the season and we need every player.”

Arsenal’s triumph over Newcastle also implies that they are in Champions League spot, after 2015-2016 season, where they finished second behind the Champions Leicester City.
