Expanding in Africa, Qatar Airways Announces Flights to Luanda, Angola

In a lavish event held yesterday, Qatar Airways, the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar, announced the launch of new flights that will operate from Doha to Luanda, Angola.

As per reports, the service will be provided five times in a week to the capital and will be initiated from March 29, 2020.

The flights will be operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, having 232 seats in the Economy Class and 22 seats in the Business Class. This is the first gateway of Qatar Airways to the African country.

The 22 business passengers will be provided with a five star ‘dine on demand’ food and beverage service and have the leisure of enjoying fully lie flat beds onboard.

With the launch of the Doha-Luanda service, Qatar Airways hopes to be the first to operate the Boeing 777x. The aircraft, best known for its folding wing’s tips, is the latest iteration of the Boeing 777 family.

Expressing extended delight at the announcement, Akbar Al Baker, the Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways, said, “We are excited to be announcing our new service to Luanda – the latest destination in our rapidly expanding African network connecting Luanda to key markets in the Far East, South East Asia and Europe.”

“The new route to the coastal city of Luanda not only further solidifies the links between the State of Qatar and Angola, but will enable us to provide a seamless journey to and from this fascinating country and one of the world’s fastest growing economies. Qatar Airways is committed to growing our presence in Africa and adding to the 24 destinations in 17 countries we already offer,” he added.

Attracting numerous Portuguese immigrants over the past few years, Luanda is a fast developing city, which is enriched with beautiful architecture and scenic beauty. Some of the must visit tourist spots of Luanda include Saint Michael Fortress, the Iron Palace built by world renowned architect Gustave Eiffel, Quiçama National Park, Cabo Ledo beach, the Tundavala Fissure in Angola and many more.

Apart from the Doha-Luanda service, recently Qatar Airways has initiated its services to multiple new destinations such as Rabat, Morocco; Malta; Davao, Philippines; Lisbon, Portugal; Mogadishu, Somalia and Izmir, Turkey.

As per reports, Langkawi, Malaysia, and Gaborone, Botswana will be added to its existing route network by October 2019.

Qatar Airways has always been known for its exemplary services. It recently won an award for “Skytrax Airline of the Year”. Also, it has been titled “Best Airline in the Middle East”, “Best Business Class Seat” and “World’s Best Business Class” because of its exceptional business class experience.
