Sheikh Tamim’s US Visit to Strengthen Bilateral Ties, Resolve Regional Issue

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, also known as the Emir of Qatar, will be meeting US President Donald Trump at the White House in Washington DC this week. This meet is a welcome sight for the sore eyes as it raises hopes of resolving the ongoing tensions in the Middle East region, thereby mitigating the chances of petroleum and trade-war crisis amongst many others.

As per the announcement by US Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, the US President will be meeting the Emir of Qatar on July 9. Both Sheikh Tamim and Trump are bound to exchange views on the “economic and security ties” and to resolve counter-terrorism issues.

The visit of HH Sheikh Tamim to the US is based on the already well-established friendly relations between both the countries. Last month, the White House also released an official statement announcing the visit.

The statement read, “The visit will further strengthen our already substantial economic and security ties. The two leaders are expected to discuss regional developments, bilateral security cooperation, and counterterrorism issues.”

HH has always been a supporter of developing friendlier relations and believer of “dialogue as the best solution”. Last year, he toured the countries of Latin America to reinforce the economy and boost the sectors of energy, infrastructure, and strengthen the friendly relations of Qatar with them.

It is expected that with the visit of Sheikh Tamim to the US, the two leaders can figure out a way to further strengthen the US-Qatar relations, despite the ongoing crisis in the region. His visit to the US might help the Trump administration in achieving peace in the Middle East and further strengthening one of their largest military airbases in Qatar.

The long-expected visit of HH to the US will also help the latter in improving the sustainable use of natural resources as Qatar Petroleum will be investing $20 billion in the United States.

William Grant, Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the United States, in his statement regarding the visit said, “We fully anticipate it is going to be a very big visit. The relationship between the US and Qatar is active and diverse. US is engaged in activities that are helping Qatar; Qatar is doing things that helps US and that are our interest.”

The visit of Sheikh Tamim is considered to bring positive outcomes for both the nations as well as the Middle East region, including Iran. This meet is also expected to lead both the countries towards a path of greater and sustainable progress.
